Does that sound familiar to you?
When the Bible said, "Flee from all appearances of evil," there is a reason for that. You cannot fight temptation by being around it; you must first flee from it. Run as fast as you can and as far away as you can.
Someone once said, "Just because you can resist the devil doesn't mean you should hang out with him." Don't put yourself in a position to be tempted. If you don't want to be tempted, don't hang around temptation, it is much easier to avoid temptation than it is to resist it.
1st Thessalonians 5:22 (KJV) says, "Abstain from every appearance of evil." In other words, FLEE, even if it means you have to cut off all forms of contact with whosoever or whatsoever. Do it as long as you remove yourself completely from the picture, because if you keep hanging around temptations, whether you want to or not, you will get tempted.
However just fleeing from temptations does not solve all the problem. Yes it is essential you separate yourself from the root cause, it is also equally important you address whatever may have been put into your subconscious through prayer. Prayer helps to strengthen your resolve and seek divine guidance, allowing you to build a more resilient defense against temptation.
After you have prayed, it's essential to equip yourself with the tools needed to stand firm. Studying the Word of God is a vital part of this process. The Bible offers wisdom, encouragement, and practical advice that can help you navigate the complexities of life and avoid falling into temptation. Immersing yourself in Scripture not only deepens your understanding of God's will but also fortifies your spirit against the allure of sin. The more you know and apply biblical principles, the stronger your ability to resist temptation becomes.
In conclusion, overcoming temptation is a multi-faceted effort that involves more than just avoiding it. It requires a proactive approach, including prayer, which invites divine assistance, and the diligent study of the Scriptures, which equips you with the knowledge and strength to stand firm. By combining these practices with the initial step of fleeing from temptation, you create a robust defense that enables you to live a life aligned with your values and faith.
